How to wear pink – the rules

Don’t be scared, embrace it – pink is all around us. But before you dust off those sugar pink dungarees, it pays to be aware of a few ground rules.

So here are a few pointers:

1 One of the best ways to achieve a shade of pink is with a micro pattern of red and white, which, seen from a distance, looks pink.

2 Pink jeans are a step too far, but brick red casual trousers, inspired by New England sailing chinos, can work well – save them for holidays or very hot weekends though.

3 Pink and pale grey work well together, but keep the grey dusty – think suede, sweatshirt material or canvas trousers.

4 Pink and white is a classic colour combination, but the clean affect is very contemporary.

5 If you’re not ready for an all-pink polo shirt, try a hooped shirt with pink in the mix.

6 It’s not really right in business environments, because any light shade (apart from white) is unavoidably informal.

7 Because it’s a casual colour pink shirts are best in casual fabrics – oxford cotton and linen.
