Food & Drink,Wine for the weekend

The weather forecast this weekend is positively Mediterranean, so we could think of no better bottle to recommend than this delicious Italian red.
It’s a Super Tuscan, which basically means it’s a wine from the Chianti region that doesn’t adhere to all the restrictions to qualify for DOC status – this might not sound like a good thing, but actually has produced some of the country’s most innovative (and expensive) reds such as the legendary Tignanello.
But we digress. Le Volte, a blend of sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, has been aged in oak for 10 months to soften the gum-gripping tannins, and the result is a fresh and lightly spiced wine which delivers a smooth mouthful of red berry flavours. Serve it up with tomato pasta dishes, soft cheeses or charcuterie. £14.30 from Armit
