Here’s a reminder that the Esquire fashion team are once more on the hunt for the nation’s most stylish men, with a prize worth £20,000 up for grabs.
Over the coming months, we’ll be scouring Britain’s streets in search of dapper men, hosting a series of special style events at a city near you and also inviting you to enter directly by post, email or carrier pigeon (as one of last year’s entrants managed to do). We’ll have details on when the events are taking place very soon. [Read more...]

The Jack Purcell, an Esquire favourite, has received an unexpected and pleasant upgrade. We’re not fans of needlessly updating classics unless it’s an actual improvement as opposed to tinkering (a distinction very few brands realise the line between). Thankfully, this collaboration with Mackintosh is definitely the former. Using Mackintosh’s trademark waterproof material for the upper, The Jack Purcell has now turned into not just a spring trainer, but a trainer built for a British spring. www.oipolloi.com

So, what does four days off and an indifferent weather forecast add up to? The need to invest in some quality lounging gear of course, like these tracksuit bottoms from Sunspel. Not only do they tick the comfort and style boxes, they’re robust enough to wear outside or engaged in actual exercise. Reassuring, even if the most strenuous exercise will be walking to the fridge. £59, www.sunspel.com

But you knew that already. Still, in the super-heavy video for Moby’s new track, “The Day”, she gets wings and a sword with which to whup the ass of an offending demon, while the shiny pated musician remains calmly plastered to the ceiling tiles (just watch it, this will all make sense). And for all you TV ad creatives out there, Moby’s forthcoming studio album, Destroyed, is out on 16 May.

As campaign ideas go, getting the man who created the poster for Breakfast at Tiffany’s to work his magic on a sportswear brand would be quite a feat wouldn’t it? That’s just what Ellesse has managed to do. The label has been on the comeback trail of late, taking advantage of the fact that items like cargo trousers and camouflage are now back in style, and it approached legendary illustrator Robert McGinnis, the man behind several other iconic movie posters like You Only Live Twice to produce the kind of poster art you’d be happy have on your walls at home.

After a few years of confusion, we feel secure enough to stay that the readers of Esquire know when, and more importantly when not, to wear shorts. It goes without saying that displaying your knees while eating at a restaurant is an etiquette faux-pas that doesn’t need reminding. So, with that in mind, we recommend these DS Dundee shorts. They’re slightly sharper than most shorts, so they’ll work better with summer shoes and an oxford shirt. www.dsdundee.com
