App of the week – Pocket Pro

When struggling round a golf course, there’ve been many times we’ve wished we had a golf coach on hand to whisper a few words of wisdom to stop us hacking another ball into the trees. Just a dream? Actually, that’s exactly the idea behind Pocket Pro. [Read more...]

If your favourite bit of The Wonder Years was the grainy opening credit sequence (second only to those rumours about how Paul grew up to be Marilyn Manson), here’s your chance to recreate it from the comfort of your own iPhone. [Read more...]

App of the week – iPing

This app from putter gurus Ping uses the accelerometers and gyroscopes in your iPod/iPhone to analyse your stroke type, impact angle and tempo. The iPing will tell you where you are going wrong, right and even compare your efforts to Ping tour pros. It’s the Ping cradle that costs the cash (£25) – the app to make this golfing aid work is free to download. The good news is that once you have it, you can hone your stroke at home on the carpet until you have the putting consistency of a pro. Well, it has to be worth a try. ping.com

App of the week – Footiepubs

It’s a familiar scenario. You’re out and about with five minutes until kick-off and need to find a pub nearby that’s showing the football. Except by the time you’ve trekked around the surrounding streets to find the right venue, you’re angry, exhausted and probably past caring. Which is why we like the idea of new app Footiepubs. The app locates the nearest pubs showing the match wherever you are in Greater London (more cities coming soon) and shows you the route to the pub, plus if it’s serving food when you get there. One of those ideas you wish you’d had. Too late. £1.99, App store

Today sees the launch of dunhill’s DAY 8 ipad app. How to describe it? It’s not that easy to pigeon-hole, but in short, it’s a carefully-selected showcase of short films, articles and photo galleries exploring the world around us – and it’s a great place to get lost in for a while. [Read more...]

We can’t get enough of Muji here at Esquire. The ultimate stop for last minute gifts – who knew Grandma wanted a minature wooden model set of Tokyo for Christmas? – and the brand behind one of the greatest designs of the past few decades (the gloriously simple wall-mounted cd player-come-speaker FYI) Muji has just launched its latest design innovation, and this time it’s screen-based.
