Want list – Nikon S1200pj

Want list – Nikon S1200pj

Pop quiz, hotshot: You’ve taken holiday snaps and video worthy of David Bailey. But back at the villa, you want to see the fruits of your labour. No laptop. What do you do? Make sure you’ve got Nikon’s new S1200pj with its built-in projector. Brighter than its previous incarnation (now at 20 lumens), the 14-megapixel compact can beam out pictures and HD movies from 5in to a whopping 60in. Anything else? The see-in-the-dark luminous controls are a clever touch, as is the compatibility with iDevices so that you can project media content from your Apple phone, too. (Nikon, £400)

Want List – Sony DEV-5 Binoculars

Want List – Sony DEV-5 Binoculars

Looking like something out of a Jason Bourne movie, Sony’s DEV-5 binoculars are a little different from that battered old pair you last took to the cricket. What makes them so special? Sony has gone and replaced the traditional optical finders with a pair of high-res LCD electronic viewfinders, creating the world’s first digital binos. What purists lose in optical viewfinders, tech-heads gain in the ability to take pictures and record full HD (and 3D video). Sony has also shoehorned GPS geotagging and SteadyShot – its visual stabilisation system – into the package. (Sony, £2,000)

What’s in the bag Marco?

What’s in the bag Marco?

What is Marco Pierre White lugging through the woods? No, it’s not the body parts of a young kitchen insubordinate or the shredded pages of Gordon Ramsay’s latest book, but a piece of kit that every man should think about investing in this summer… [Read more...]

Attack of the Grandgamers

Attack of the Grandgamers

Picture the scene. You’re one nil up against Brazil in the World Cup final, as Fifa 10 purrs peacefully inside your new Xbox. You’re through on goal; victory is all but secured. Suddenly, a wrinkly hand snatches the controller from your grasp. “Give us a go!” your Grandma shouts, as Rooney stops, a lifeless statue in the penalty area. [Read more...]

The Esquire gift list No 7

The Esquire gift list No 7

Sony Ericsson talks about its Xperia Pureness phone being a work of art rather than a piece of technology, but — to give it its due — it satisfies both criteria equally well. This lightweight device is the first to sport a transparent, monochrome screen (through which its ghostly pixels are discretely displayed), and the illuminated buttons “vanish” when not in use.
