Kitsuné. But not as you know it

kitsune_staff
Kitsuné Maison, the musical minds behind some of the biggest acts of 2009 including La Roux, obviously weren’t happy with ridding you of all your money on music downloads, and look set to empty your wallet of even more cash with the opening of the new Kitsuné temporary clothes store on Omotesando in Tokyo. Stocked with their own-brand totes, sneakers, shirts and apparel, in a sort of toned-down East London aesthetic, the lifestyle entrepreneurs seem to be as adept in fashion as they are in music. www.maisonkitsune.fr/clothes/special/boutique-tokyo/ (more…)

Bags to basics

sunglasses_case

In an era when we are inundated with more and more “stuff”, it can be hard to remember what exactly each bag, compartment, pouch and case we own is actually for, turning the original concept of the accessory – convenience – on its head. Natalia Brilli’s new leather range, in which the proposed contents of her items are pressed into the façade of each bag, may well be the answer to this very modern dilemma. www.nataliabrilli.fr (more…)

The Rise of ‘Spashion’ # 2

Spashion_2

As we reported last week, fashion and sports’ torrid bedfellowing is reaching brand new heights, and here we have yet more proof of the rise of ‘spashion’: Vera Wang’s slightly barmy Olympics creation for reigning world figure-skating champion Evan Lysacek. This is one of five key looks the American designer created for the Vancouver games. She says “You have to swim like Michael Phelps, dive like Greg Louganis, but look good.” We think she achieved that with the copious black feathers billowoing at the gloved wrists.

Battle of the high-end sneakers

Sneakers

Both are famed for the towering sky-high heels that teeter the red carpet and adorn the feet of the world’s most beautiful and celebrated women. And both have seguewayed into the world of casual streetstyle menswear sneakers. In the left corner: Christian Laboutin with animal print Vans-lite ankle-height shoes, unveiled at their A/W ‘09 press day. In the right corner: Jimmy Choo’s just-unveiled £395 hightops. Let battle commence.

The latest menswear style icon… Lady Gaga?

Gaga_3

According to influential menswear style bible, Guarro magazine, the Bad Romance-crooning pop minstrel should be every modern man’s style inspiration. We’re yet to be convinced how practical the hair bows and lightning bolts will be come the next departmental meeting.

Kris Van Assche swaps fashion for flowers

Kris Van Assche

Fashion designer Kris Van Assche downed cloth to make a series of giant flowers made of mirror and, concurrently for the stem, tripods, the pieces accessorised with an interactive mechanism allowing visitors the opportunity to plunge into the Dior Homme Artistic Director’s designs. Spectators are suddenly engulfed by the designer’s choice of images, sounds and odours, some of which were inspired by his past collections. If fashionable flora are your thing, Van Assche’s Picaflor runs at the Galerie des Galeries in Paris throughout February.  www.galeriedesgaleries.com
