The third thing you can’t be cheap about

Our_Legacy_Sweatshirt

There’s already two things you can’t be cheap about – shoes and suits - but can we add sweatshirts to that list? While you could find a perfectly acceptable looking version at any high street clothing store, a cheap sweatshirt will always feel, well, cheap. (more…)

The art of mix and match

Striped_Shirt

When does something stop being a staple and start being just plain boring? If it’s a menswear trend, it’s when every man within a 50 mile radius is wearing it. And we’ve certainly reached that point with check shirts, which is why a small crop of designers have taken to sprucing up the pattern. (more…)

The next phase for street style photography?

The ‘test shots’ series from director Jake Davis captures stylish folks against scenic backdrops – all aided by music from the likes of Grizzly Bear, and was originally created to conicide with the menswear trade show season. It’s very much a Sartorialist 2.0 affair. Whilst a project like this is easy to get wrong, the clothes and personalities on show are engaging enough to distract you from the fact that you’re watching a man tug on his clothes and pirouette for a minute. jakedavis.typepad.com/jakedavis

Northampton regains its cool

shoes

One intriguing byproduct of menswear going granddad is that certain cities end up gaining a bizarre cool factor. Take Northampton for instance – while it’s been known for their shoes amongst those in the know for eons, it’s taken on a new edge ever since the blogs got their hands on the city. In fact, stating that you make your shoes in Northampton has become such a badge of honour that blogs have taken to shouting about it. (more…)

Are you ready to go cargo?

cargo

That’s right – cargo trousers are on their way back. It’s been a while (and rightfully so) but now designers feel like they can restore this much maligned trouser to its former glory. The difference between these and the versions stuffed down the back of your wardrobe is that they’ve been trimmed and slimmed for a modern look. Despite this, the main problem with cargo trousers still remains. Namely, what kind of man needs trousers with 8 pockets?
