If all the reports are true, summer 2016 is going to be the hottest on record. Fans and ice lollies will be useless - the only way to keep cool will be to book a bolthole by the sea.
While people will be flocking to Brighton, Margate and Blackpool, here are some alternatives that will be a little calmer and quieter during a heatwave.
1 | Sea Front Villa, Whitstable, Kent
If you're not on the roof terrace with uninterrupted sea views, you can head down to the pebbled beach and sample some of Whitstable's famous fresh oysters. Fancy something a little more extravagant? The Sportsman is a great Michelin starred pub a short cab ride away.
2 | Stones Throw Cottage, Norfolk
Stones Throw Cottage in Mundesley is - as you may have guessed - a stones throw away from the beach. Based along the north Norfolk coast, where the beaches are some of the cleanest in the UK, Mundesley also has a fine nine-hole golf course. Perfect.
3 | Seascape, North Yorkshire
There is no doubt Runswick Bay looks like it's painting. The picturesque village near the sea will leave your stress in the city. If you fancy getting to know the locals, there's a lovely local, dog friendly, pub nearby.
4 | Garden Living, Cornwall
Bring your boat to this wonderful house, a short walk from the beach. There's plenty of room and when you've had enough of sailing relax with a famous local cornish pasty and ale in the garden. Falmouth is also a great spot for beach fishing too – the Prince of Wales Pier is great to catch pollock, mackerel and flounder.
5 | Boutique Bolthole, Aberystwyth
Overlooking the beach and harbour in Cardigan bay, there's plenty to do here including looking out for the biggest pod of dolphins in the UK. If you're feeling adventurous, tackling the five-mile Wales Coast Path will greet you with some breath talking scenes.
6 | Airds Bay Luxury Beach House, Dumfries and Galloway
This 3 bedroom property overlooking sea views to the Murray Isles is the ideal escape from city life. The beach house is so perfect you probably won't want to leave it. If you do get away The Country Market, selling regional produce, is held weekly on Saturday mornings throughout the year.
7 | Beach Beyond The Lawn, East Yorkshire
You couldn't get any closer to the beach if you tried. And watching the sun rise over the bay in the morning is magical. If you want some human interaction the town centre is 30 minutes walk. But you'll be thankful for the peace and quiet.
