Before he was a Hollywood star and the governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger won the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition seven times in 10 years. Mr. Olympia, which started five years before Schwarzenegger became champion, is 51 years old, and there have been 13 winners since 1965. As this graphic put together by body image resource site Bulimia.com shows, Schwarzenegger's muscle build noticeably changed from first time he won at age 23 compared to his final win in 1980.

Schwarzenegger's evolution is representative of the changing size and shape of winners over the last 50 years. Bodybuilders were competing using steroids by the 1960s; Schwarzenegger is open about his steroid use during that time. In 2005, he told ABC, "I have no regrets about it, because at that time, it was something new that came on the market, and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors' supervision." Bulimia.com notes that only one of the champions, Frank Zane, had a Body Mass Index even remotely close to that of an average American man. Alternatively, Ronnie Coleman's BMI technically qualifies as obese.

Still, they flex good.
