This American presidential campaign season, any good political reporter could tell which @realDonaldTrump tweets were written by the candidate himself. If the tweet was sent from an Android phone, Trump was the author. If it's from iPhone or desktop, chances are a staffer sent it.

And to those paying attention recently, it seemed that the Android tweeter had gone quiet, and the unhinged attacks stopped coming late at night. Some speculated that Trump's staff finally was victorious in prying the Twitter machine from him.

Today, the New York Times confirmed those suspicions.

Aides to Mr. Trump have finally wrested away the Twitter account that he used to colorfully—and often counterproductively—savage his rivals. But offline, Mr. Trump still privately muses about all of the ways he will punish his enemies after Election Day, including a threat to fund a "super PAC" with vengeance as its core mission.

The catch is that now, instead of scrolling through Twitter before he goes to bed like any normal human, Trump is forcing his aides to stay up talking to him.

Donald J. Trump is not sleeping much these days. Aboard his gold-plated jumbo jet, the Republican nominee does not like to rest or be alone with his thoughts, insisting that aides stay up and keep talking to him.

According to the Times, his advisors have somehow managed to wrangle Trump into a semblance of comparative sanity during the final stretch of the campaign. When the news broke that the FBI would be looking at new emails from Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, they argued that Trump needed to be disciplined in his message to capitalise on the opportunity—his last chance before election day.

So far, their efforts seem mildly successful. But there are still a couple days left before final votes are tallied.
