Samuel L. Jackson's campy cult film Snakes On a Plane might not be quite as unrealistic as you'd like to believe.

During a flight from Torreon to Mexico City on Sunday, a stowaway snake suddenly slithered its way between the overhead compartments and the wall of the plane — causing passengers to immediately panic. The seats directly below the reptile were cleared at once, before the dangling snake dropped to the floor.

Passengers were able to corral the snake — estimated to be about three feet long — between two rows of seats using blankets provided by a flight attendant. The flight was then given "priority landing" in Mexico City, and animal control boarded the plane to remove the snake.

"It was a frightening situation ... but people remained calm because it didn't get out of that space and nobody became hysterical," passenger Indalecio Medina told The Associated Press. "Some people got up to see what kind of reptile it was, but nobody got carried away."

The Huffington Post reports that police are currently investigating how the snake got on the plane in the first place. However, there's no word yet on whether they've contacted FBI agent Nelville Flynn for advice.
