A leading travel industry expert has already predicted how the results of the American election will affect the country's tourism. Joel Brandon-Bravo of Travelzoo predicts that there will be as many as one million less Brits heading to the US next year.

"Following confirmation of a win for Donald Trump in the presidential election today, we're now forecasting an unstable 2017 for US tourism, with over one million UK travellers set to reconsider the country as a holiday destination," Brandon-Bravo told The Independent.

The prediction is based on a survey that was conducted just before the election, where one in five Brits claimed they would not consider going to America for a holiday is Trump were to be elected. The feeling is even stronger in London with three in 10 people saying they would definitely not travel to the States if Trump won.

"Other factors, such as the falling value of the pound and outbreaks of the Zika virus appear to have had little change on our desire to travel to the US, but today's results look set to have an impact," Brandon-Bravo added.
