Reenactments are pretty much always very cheesy. But in the new trailer for the HBO doc Beware the Slender Man, we get a first look at a dangerous horror meme brought to life. And it's pretty chilling.
The documentary, which premiered at SXSW, will look at the 2009 horror meme that allegedly inspired two 12-year-old Wisconsin girls to stab their classmate 19 times. The victim survived, but the now-14-year-olds are being tried for first-degree attempted murder as adults.
"Many people do not believe Slender Man is real," one of the girls said, according to the criminal complaint cited by Uproxx. "[We] wanted to prove the skeptics wrong."
