You might remember two things in particular about Donald Trump as a candidate. One, he really didn't like protesters. And two, he wasn't exactly consistent on many of his views—except, of course, that we need The Wall and we need it now. Neither of those characteristics seems to have faded away now that he is President-elect. Exhibit A: That proposal for a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" went poof overnight, then came back. Exhibit B: His views on the protests that have erupted in cities across the country in response to his victory.

They're paid professionals! They're incited by the media! It's unfair! That was 9 P.M. last night. But look! Just nine hours later, our new president had a dramatic change of heart:

Passion! Togetherness! Small groups! It's truly amazing what a good night's sleep can do for the mind. Either that, or a desperate talking-to from Kellyanne Conway. Can we expect this on other issues—say, whether to throw 20 million people off the insurance rolls by repealing Obamacare? We'll have to wait and see. These are exciting times.
