Westworld has a lot of questions to answer and only three episodes remaining in its first season. Who is behind the hosts' existential awakening? What the hell is Dr. Robert Ford doing? What's this maze? Who is the Man in Black? What is going on? Yes, that's quite a bit to explain in three hours of television, while also leaving time for HBO's beloved gratuitous violence and orgies.

Thankfully, Westworld will have more time to get to the bottom of this whole robot theme park thing, as the show has been renewed by HBO for a second season. It should come as no surprise that HBO would renew one of its most-watched debuts in years, but it's had some struggles with new shows in recent months. Earlier this summer, the premium network canceled its super expensive and super boring '70s boomer rock drama Vinyl.

"It's fantastic to have a broad-based cultural and ratings hit to build from, That's a great, great luxury," said HBO programming president Casey Bloys, who praised the show's devoted following and threads filled with fan-theories. "The level of detail that people devote to thinking about it is impressive."

Westworld has been averaging 11.7 million viewers per episode. HBO also announced that it is also renewing Insecure and Divorce for second seasons. For their part, Insecure is averaging 4.4 million viewers an episode and Insecure 3.2 million.

"All three (series) have done exactly what I'd hoped in terms of connecting with audiences and raising the questions the creators set out to raise," Bloys said.
