When Leonard Cohen's death was announced last week, the news came as a surprise to the music world. He had died three days before it was made public, and his management did not provide any cause or any further details into what happened.

Now, his manager has revealed that Cohen died in his sleep after falling down during the night in his Los Angeles home.

"The death was sudden, unexpected, and peaceful," manager Robert B. Kory said in a statement. Cohen, whose health had been declining for a number of years, was buried in Montreal on the same day that his death was made public.

"With only immediate family and a few lifelong friends present, he was lowered into the ground in an unadorned pine box, next to his mother and father," his son, Adam Cohen wrote in a statement last week.

A memorial is being planned in Los Angeles at a later date.
