Hours after it was reported that Kanye West had checked himself into a Los Angeles hospital "for his own health and safety" on Monday, Kris Jenner, Kourtney, and Khloé Kardashian stepped out in New York City for the annual Angel Ball. Us Weekly reported that the event, which was held in honor of the late Robert Kardashian, was supposed to be Kim's first public appearance since her Paris robbery. While Kim rushed back to the west coast to be by Kanye's side, Kris provided a brief update on behalf of the family. According to People, Kris told an onlooker Kanye is "exhausted." She echoed that sentiment in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, adding that the rapper, who cancelled the final 21 shows of the Saint Pablo tour, is "just really tired… it's a grueling tour." Kris also spoke to Extra just before Kanye's hospitalization news broke: "He's exhausted, he's just really tired. He's had a grueling tour and it's been a grind so he just needs some rest."

Meanwhile, People has released a new report on the reason for Kanye's hospitalization. In addition to exhaustion and sleep deprivation, one source says Kanye "feels like he's under spiritual attack." According to the source, it's been going on for a while: "It's not just the big things; it's smaller, quieter things, internal things. You might think that it's about Kim's robbery, and while that didn't help, that's not what's going on here. He's dealing with a lot more subtle issues." The source adds that the anniversary of Kanye's mother Donda's death "always brings him a lot of pain." Donda passed away at the age of 58 in November 2007. "He keeps that pain internalized, but sometimes will talk about how hard this time of year is for him. He works through the pain every November," the source says.
