There's a massive wildfire raging in the US state of Tennessee, because of what The Washington Post calls "exceptional drought and strong wind". A fire swept into the Great Smoky Mountains towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge at an incredible speed. Many residents received little warning before they had to evacuate—like Michael Luciano, who posted this video of his harrowing escape to Facebook:
"Why is every cabin on fire?"
"Please Lord, get us off this mountain."
It's a terrifying account of a near-death experience. As the SUV speeds through an inferno, the flames burst out of the tree lines to lick the windows. Sparks fly continually, and the smoky haze is unrelenting. It's a vision of Hell—in Tennessee. Luckily, they were able to escape.
