Despite Snapchat often leading the market and seeing rivals follow in its tracks (*cough Instagram cough*), there's one major feature it has neglected to bring to the app.

Yes, the platform is great for broadcasting slow-motion videos of your pets and applying nonsensical filters, but actually communicating with a group of friends has so far required you to take your business elsewhere.

With a fresh update, though, Snap Inc. has announced it will finally be introducing group chats.

You can now start a chat with up to 16 Snapchat friends, and conversations will stick to traditional Snapchat form and disappear after 24 hours.

The company indicates that you'll be able to create group chats either when sending a new message or starting a new chat, and recipients will also only be able to view Snaps sent to the group once.

If you want to change pace and switch to a private conversation, you can now tap on a friend's name to temporarily exit the group — a feature Snap calls Quick Chat.

The Group addition is also joined by two tools — scissors and paintbrush.

While scissors will allow you to cut a section of a Snap out and turn it into a sticker in the Preview screen, paintbrush will allow you transform posts in Memories into "artistic masterpieces".

Of course, this nifty update isn't without its dangers. Namely, it just became even easier to embarrass yourself through an accidental mass message.

Stay safe, Snappers.
