In late November, rumours that Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, and Beyoncé were headlining Coachella 2017 seemed too good to be true. Well, it turns out what we had originally reported was right. Coachella promoter Goldenvoice has announced its 2017 lineup which includes those three headliners along with the XX, Bon Iver, Lorde's first performance in three years, Father John Misty, Gucci Mane, Schoolboy Q, New Order, Justice, Future Islands, and more. At first glance, this lineup brings its most contemporary crop of headliners in years—foregoing its typical big reunion act, which was LCD Soundsystem last year.
Some other highlights include The Avalances' first performance in a decade, along what hopefully promises new music from the likes of Lorde, Future Islands, and Mac DeMarco, who all appear on the lineup after long breaks. Another thing to point out is the festival seems to be cutting back on electronic-heavy lineups this year. During the EDM boom, Coachella relied heavily on electronic acts to appeal to younger festivalgoers. Without an electronic act anchoring one of the headlining spots, it seems Goldenvoice is predicting EDM to move fewer tickets in the future.
