We've all heard plenty about Fitbit and other wristbands that promise to Change Your Life For The Better!, but one new wearable gadget may actually revolutionize the way you drink.
Marketed as "a premium wearable for happy hours, wine tastings, and more," Proof by Milo Sensors is a slim wristband that functions much like all those fitness trackers you keep hearing about, but it doesn't track your motions—it reads alcohol molecules through your skin to tell you how drunk you are.
CEO and founder Evan Strenk told Mashable that after $100,000 (around £80,000) from the National Institute of Health as well as years of development and testing, Proof is "comparable" to consumer breathalyzers.
Using disposable cartridges to ensure accuracy, the sensor converts alcohol into an electrical current, which allows the wearable to display your blood alcohol content (BAC) on your iPhone or Android using the accompanying app. It's a pretty great way to discreetly check your phone and see if you're good for another drink, or if you are sober enough to drive home.
In addition, Proof can predict how drunk or sober you'll be later in the night and can alert you when you hit a specific BAC level, whether low (to drive home) or high (to let you know to stop pounding down those tequila shots already, pal). You can even track your friends (if they accept the invite) and make sure they're not gonna have a rough morning when they wake up.
Sometime this year, the company plans to crowdfund the wearable for a target price of about £80 to £130. Until then, safe drinking, folks.
