Of course Denis Villeneuve didn't actually build 12 massive extraterrestrial obsidian eggs at 12 locations across the globe. Of course squid-like heptapods didn't actually bring these structures to Earth for Amy Adams to give an Oscar-worthy performance. Rather, a bunch of actors wandered around in a vast, stunning field in Canada, and a bunch of computer geeks added all the interesting stuff in afterward.
Of course you knew the movie was mostly stunning special effects and an excellent script. But seeing these before and after shots of the film just make it more real.
