It's undeniable that 2016 was a shitstorm of a year, but perhaps one of the top five worst moments happened just 10 days in, when David Bowie passed away. That said, 2016 was also an extreme success for the legend after he released Blackstar right before his death; in fact, it outsold his classic albums in the past year.

Billboard reported earlier today that his farewell album could hit No. 1 on the charts this week, which would be Bowie's first-ever No. 1. But it turns out that Blackstar already broke a record in 2016.

According to The Guardian, Official Charts Company compiled the latest figures and found that Bowie's albums have combined sales of approximately 1.62 million since his death. The company also put together lists of the top 10 albums and top 10 songs, with Blackstar and "Heroes" winning out.

Leave it to David Bowie to keep on wowing the world with his legacy even past his death.
