Tom Oye caught some jaw-dropping footage of what it looks like to be caught in an avalanche. Luckily, he was wearing an inflatable backpack that likely saved his life, and a GoPro camera so we could see the death-defying feat.

It was just a normal day on the mountain in Whistler, Canada until Oye encountered a patch of snow that broke loose and started an avalanche. Reacting immediately, Oye activated his inflatable backpack to keep himself from being buried by the onslaught of heavy snow. (The high-pitched whirring you hear during the avalanche is the sound of the bag inflating.)
