The relationship between celebrities and the paparazzi can be strained at the best of times, but Chrissy Teigen took to Twitter to share a particularly shocking encounter with a racist photographer.

When the model and her husband, the singer John Legend, landed at New York's JFK airport on Thursday, they were met with the usual crowd of waiting photographers when one started firing offensive questions at her, including: "if we evolved from monkeys, why is John Legend still around?"

She added that her husband was standing right next to her at the time, making the comment all the more upsetting. Teigen continued, saying that the photographer then asked: "if a Jew were a vampire, would he still be afraid of crosses?"

The 30-year-old shared a blow-by-blow account of the incident with her Twitter fans.

It's likely that the paparazzo was intentionally trying to get a rise out of the famously smiley and agreeable pair, in order to sell pictures of them angrily lashing out at photographers, which Teigen acknowledges in her Tweets.

Fortunately they were able to rise above it.
