Shia LaBeouf was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of assault, following an alleged altercation in New York. The actor has been stationed outside the Museum of the Moving Image since Inauguration Day as part of his most recent art project—a four-year anti-Trump live-stream entitled He Will Not Divide Us, which aims to combat the division caused by the new president.

The New York Daily News reports that a "shouting match" broke out between two groups in the early hours of the morning, at which point LaBeouf allegedly ripped a 25-year-old man's scarf off, "causing a scratch to the man's face," and pushed him to the ground. He was arrested shortly afterward on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and harassment. The victim didn't receive medical treatment, and LaBeouf was charged and released early Thursday.

After launching on Friday, the anti-Trump live-stream had been largely peaceful, until LaBeouf was forced to confront an alleged white supremacist on Sunday who had arrived to antagonise the protesters. The first confrontation ended without a physical altercation.

The He Will Not Divide Us Twitter account claims that "Shia was attacked by a nazi" and has started #FreeShia, which has gained traction throughout the morning.
