"You look great" are three of the emptiest words in the English language. (Unless they're true, which is rare.) And when Jimmy Fallon said those three words to Ricky Gervais on The Tonight Show last night, he was met by the brute honesty of Gervais, who knows he doesn't look great, who knows he's put on 10 pounds at least since the last time he was on the show, and who is just thrilled he can still see his penis over his extended girth.
And so Fallon was reduced to a pile of giggles and fake distress.
There is a certain loveliness of an unhealthy, mostly drunk lifestyle. Just ask Matthew McConaughey. These days especially, as Gervais says, there's every reason to by unhealthy and always drunk. A caveat: It might kill you.
The last time Gervais was on Fallon, they talked about saggy balls. So the conversation has obviously progressed.
