You might know them best for their Oscar-winning work on titles such as No Country for Old Men, Fargo and The Big Lebowski, but directing duo Ethan and Joel Coen have turned their hands to a more surprising venture this year – a Super Bowl advert, to be exact.

Today, German car manufacturer Mercedes launched an extended version of its latest advert called 'Easy Driver', inspired by actors Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Terry Southern's famous 1969 American road movie, Easy Rider.

In the clip – which is scheduled to run as a 30-second sport in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons – a leather-clad biker turns on Steppenwolf's single 'Born to Be Wild' on a jukebox bar before the room is alight with a biker brawl, that sees bearded, tattoed men clumsily headbutt and punch each other.

Moments later, the boozers step outside to find a man – Peter Fonda – blocking in their fellow riders' bike.

Much to the group's shock, Fonda walks over to a Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster before a woman compliments the 76-year-old actor on 'still looking good'.

It's an odd project for the Coen Brothers, who haven't directed a spot for the Big Game since their first H&R Block ad 15 years ago, but in true Coen style, it's worth the watch.
