All the big names in film and music put on their gladrags and came out in style to celebrate the Grammy and Bafta Awards last night - but one man of the moment who was visibly absent was Ryan Gosling.

He's currently up for gongs left, right and centre for his leading role opposite Emma Stone in La La Land, and though the film scooped up the award for five of its 11 nominated categories last night, Ryan wasn't there to celebrate.

Instead, an official spokesperson for British Academy of Film and Television Arts confirmed to The Sun that he had been called away due to family commitments. The statement read:

"Ryan had a family matter to attend to, he is sorry not to be here this evening. He sends his appreciation and thanks for everything."

During last night's ceremony, La La Land walked away with the awards for Best Film Music, Best Film, Best Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Leading Female for Emma Stone, though Ryan lost out to Casey Affleck in the Best Leading Male category for Manchester By The Sea.

Gosling shares two daughters with wife of five years Eva Mendes, and is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Oscars later this month on 26 February - so here's to hoping he'll be able to make an appearance then.
