It's not often that our jobs leave us in fear of death. But according to research compiled by job website Adzuna, there are some occupations that are far more hazardous than others.

And the most dangerous of them all? The quintessential job of the countryside: farming.

Farming is the UK's most dangerous industry, with 167 deaths in the past year. Heavy machinery, being exposed to extreme weather, and dealing with large animals are all factors that have an impact. There were 29 animal-related deaths of farm workers since 2010 alone.

Adzuna came to this conclusion after researching the workplace mortality figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), between 2010 and 2016. In total, they showed that 850 people died at work in those six years, across all occupations. Adzunaused this data to rank the nine jobs which saw the highest number of deaths and, surprisingly, obviously risky jobs such as firefighting and policing, didn't even make the list.
