Rapper Stormzy has accused police of breaking down his front door after he was mistaken for a burglar trying to break into his own home in Chelsea, London.

The 23-year-old MOBO award winner had spent the evening at the Elle Style Awards in London on Monday (13 February) before making his way back to his home.

Michael Omari – as his mum knows him – then took to Twitter after spending the evening at the event with his girlfriend, MTV presenter Maya Jama.

He posted: "Woke up to Feds destroying my front door coz apparently I'm a burglar who burgles his own home. @metpoliceuk need your bank details still."

Since then, the Met Police Complaint Centre Twitter account has reached out to the star to ask if he wanted to launch an official complaint.

"Hi, if you wish to make a complaint please DM us so we can take some more details. Thanks," the wrote.

Digital Spy reached out to the Met Police, who confirmed an incident did take place around this time, however they did not confirm that it was in relation to Michael Omari (Stormzy).

A representative said in a statement: "Police were called to an address in West Brompton at 00:55hrs on Tuesday, 14 February to a report of a conspiracy to burgle a ground-floor flat, believed to have been vacant.

"Officers attended and forced entry to the property, and found there to be two lawful occupants inside.

"Officers remained at the property until it was made secure. Officers have since been in further communication with the complainant."
