Barack and Michelle Obama are both writing new books, after signing a lucrative book deal with Penguin Random House.

Further details about what we can expect has not yet been revealed, but the books will reflect the time that the couple spent in the White House. The deal is thought to be worth $60m (£48 million), according to the BBC - a record sum for Presidential memoirs.

A publishing official with knowledge of the negotiation said that Barack's tome would be a straight-forward autobiography about his former role as President, and Michelle's an inspirational novel for young people that will draw on her own life story.

"With their words and their leadership, they changed the world, and every day, with the books we publish at Penguin Random House, we strive to do the same," Penguin Random House CEO Markus Dohle said.

"Now, we are very much looking forward to working together with President and Mrs Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance."

The former US President has previously written two books, Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope, while Michelle has published a book about food and gardening called American Grown.
