You deserve a holiday in New York. This is a fact.

So we decided to ask travel fare aggregator site Skyscanner to comb back through their last couple of years' worth of flight data to work out when seems to be the cheapest time to fly. And here are the results, so you know when to book for.

With the year-round average flight price from London to New York (based on Skyscanner's booking data from January - December 2016) coming in at £499.89, you could save a hefty 21% on that by selecting to travel in November, with the average flight price in that month coming in at £412.93. That's a potential saving of almost £80.

Plus it's not as if it's even a shit month to go; November's actually a really great time to visit to NYC, given that winter has usually set in by then and Christmas festivities are usually getting started. January, on the other hand, might have been a different story - with your miserable-looking bank balance and all the perils of winter without any of the Christmas lights to brighten it up.

The results also indicated that July was the spendiest time to go, with the average flight prices in that month being approximately 38% higher than the average throughout the year.

Skyscanner was quick to note that although their predictions were based on data they'd collected between 2014 and 2016, they're obviously unable to predict exactly what 2017 prices will have in store for us. But this should give you a pretty good idea of the price patterns.

As well as sharing this invaluable dime of information with us, the fare comparison tool people also advise to book 22 weeks ahead of your flight time for optimum savings. Which would make your ideal booking time at some point in June, dependent on which week you're planning to fly in November, obviously.
