It seemed like all anybody could talk about towards the end of 2014 was This American Life podcast Serial and the fascinating case of Hae Min Lee and Adnan Syed.

If you weren't one of those people, then where on Earth were you? And if you still haven't listened to it, go do it now and then come back and read this article. We'll wait.

Since then, season 2 has been and gone and the crew behind the podcast have announced a brand new production company, Serial Productions, alongside a new podcast entitled S-Town.

And while it may sound suspiciously like the name of a now-bankrupt '90s boyband, the season synopsis has us reaching for our headphones already.

The synopsis reads:

"John despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks a reporter to investigate the son of a wealthy family who's allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But then someone else ends up dead, sparking a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man's life."

Gripping, right?

But as much as it reads like the back-page description of a paperback thriller, S-Town is a true story that has apparently been in the works for over THREE years.

Season 3 will be hosted by This American Life producer Brian Reed (which unfortunately means no more Sarah Koenig) and will consist of seven episodes.

And because we live in a world where no one can wait for anything (thanks Netflix), Serial is releasing all of the episodes in one wonderful batch on March 28 (the new Christmas, as far as we're concerned).

During the Third Coast International Audio Festival last November, Serial senior producer Julie Snyder promised the project would be an "arty" and "novelistic" seven-part series.

And it sounds like that is precisely what we are getting. S-Town has released a two-minute preview that you can listen to right HERE, and "arty and novelistic" is pretty much exactly how we would describe it.
