In a not-at-all unexpected but still totally brilliant move, Tom Hardy and iconic director Ridley Scott are teaming up for a brand new Netflix project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy and Ridley Scott's Free Films - who were also involved in the BBC hit Taboo - are teaming up for the promisingly-titled War Party.

War Party will reportedly be based on true events, focusing on the stories of real-life US Navy SEALs.

Netflix pipped the likes of Amazon, Universal and Lionsgate to the War Party post, offering a seven-figure sum for the Andrew Dominik-directed project.

While Scott will remain in a producer role, it is The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford's Dominik who will serve as director and co-writer.

Things are on the up and up for Hardy recently, as his gritty drama Taboo has been officially confirmed for a second series.

The Stephen Knight-led programme will continue where it left off for Hardy's James Keziah Delaney, after the first run ended with the enigmatic James leaving England after a bit of murdering.

"We are grateful and excited to continue our relationship with the BBC and FX in contributing towards British drama. Fantastic news," Hardy said of the news.

Sir Ridley Scott is also back on board for the next installment, and has admitted he's "thrilled" with the reception of the first series.

"We're thrilled people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are up for more adventures with the devil Delaney and the league of the damned," he said.
