White House blunders have become much more commonplace since Barack Obama left office, and Friday's mistake, when the White House sent out a parody opinion piece in an email and on its website citing it as fact, was yet another example of how President Donald Trump's presidency is not like other presidencies.

On Friday, Alexandra Petri's column on Trump's proposed budget ran on the Washington Post website. Her piece was entitled, "Trump's budget makes perfect sense and will fix America, and I will tell you why." Petri has also penned articles with titles like: "Great news: President Trump did not bite any bats in half during his address to Congress!" and "Liberal activists are responsible for everything everywhere, it turns out" as well as "Sean Spicer is right. That five-year-old refugee has diabolical plans."

Petri, in case you (like the White House) haven't noticed, is a talented humor columnist. Honestly, if you don't read her regularly, you should. She's like the smart, satirical sister to Stephen Colbert's Comedy Central character.

The column the White House cited with a straight face, included such nuggets as:

  • "With the money we will save on these sad public servants, we will be able to buy lots of GUNS and F-35s and other cool things that go BOOM and POW and PEW PEW PEW."
  • "Clean rivers and breathable air are making us SOFT and letting the Chinese and the Russians get the jump on us."
  • "We are decreasing funding to the National Institutes of Health because in the future we will cure disease by punching it, or, if that fails, sending drones after it."
  • "All fetuses will burst out of wombs brandishing an Uzi on each arm."

Petri wrote about the incident on the Post's website: "Either they read it and loved it, especially the part where I wrote that all schoolchildren will be taught by an F-35 in a Make America Great Again hat, or they … did not read it, but liked the headline."

On second thought, Petri's points are not so far off from Kellyanne Conway's latest drivel. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump offers her a job soon.
