Good news, Skynet fans: hopes of another sequel to Arnold Schwarzenegger's Terminator aren't quite dead yet.

Fans got very excited when everyone's favourite action-star-turned-state-politician Arnie said he was very keen for there to be another Terminator film last year.

However, this became increasingly unlikely, as Paramount Pictures withdrew support for a reboot - and it started to look as though the franchise had finally been terminated.

What a difference a week makes, eh? For hopes of a Terminator sequel now look very promising indeed - and we have Skydance Media's David Ellison to thank for this vital bit of intelligence.

The CEO of the film production company recently revealed there will be a "major announcement" about the franchise coming in 2017, adding that the series has an "incredibly bright future".

He even said the series will be what "fans really wanted" since Judgement Day, which sounds like one hell of a ride.

"I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me, it's an incredibly bright future," Ellison told Collider.

"I think where it's going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.

"We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It's something we're incredibly excited about and we think is the direction it needs to head."

The good news is this all seems very promising.

In fact, all we need now is for Schwarzenegger to stop arguing with President Donald Trump about whose series of The Apprentice was better and get this thing in action.

Until then: you can enjoy the brilliance of T2: Judgement Day all over again when the film hits cinemas in 3D later this year.
