Cuba Gooding Jr caused shock when he lifted up Sarah Paulson's dress as she attempted to greet Kathy Bates on stage at the annual PaleyFest in LA.

The American Horror Story actress shrieked as the actor pulled up her frock while she went to hug her close friend and co-star Kathy at a screening and panel for the FX series last night (March 26).

In a clip of the incident posted on social media, Paulson doesn't appear to notice what is happening at first, before eventually crying out and pulling her dress down before it exposed her underwear.

Prior to the incident, Paulson had already playfully slapped Gooding Jr's hand away as he pulled at her dress after she had taken her seat on stage.

The panel appeared to continue as normal after the commotion, but fans went on to share their disgust at the actor's seemingly inappropriate behaviour on Twitter.

"Cuba disrespectfully lifted Sarah's dress in front of thousands of people and cameras," one wrote.

Another tweeted: "American horror story fans and the media need to give that dude a total black out."

One fan claimed to point out: "FYI the reason @MsSarahPaulson is smiling is bc @MsKathyBates, then screams out of shock at the disrespectful actions of @cubagoodingjr."

And another asked: "How would @cubagoodingjr react if a man walked up to his daughter, Piper and lifted her dress up behind her back? #itsneverok"

The stars also appeared opposite one another in the award-winning The People v OJ Simpson.

Sarah revealed at the event that the AHS character she'd most like to revive is Coven's Cordelia Foxx.

"I would like to see [Cordelia] getting her powers as the Supreme," she told the audience. "Maybe we'll get to see that."

Foxx was the headmistress at Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies in the cult show's third season.
