Donald Trump has begun reversing Barack Obama's previous measures to combat global warming.

The US President, who in 2012 called global warming a "hoax", has set about resetting and suspending various regulations including an agreement to cut national greenhouse-gas emissions by 26 to 28 per cent by 2025 compared to 2005. He wants to get rid of environmental controls to end what he terms the "war on coal" and start "a new era of American energy production" that would create jobs for Americans. The US coal industry accounts for 70,000 jobs.

In doing so, he'll revoke a ban on leasing federal lands for coal production, as well as reversing rules to limit methane emissions from oil and gas production. The administration will also repeal a policy that forced federal agencies to weigh the likely effect on climate change when drafting regulations.

Understandably, not everyone is delighted with Trump's latest plans "to make America great again". These are among the strongest reactions so far on Twitter.
