Sure, a five-star rating system is all fine and dandy, but Netflix wanted to make their system more two-dimensional for the Redditors out there.
Last month, the streaming company announced its plans to ditch the star rating system. Vice president of product at Netflix Todd Yellin said that thumbs up, thumbs down is "becoming the global language of the internet," adding that "five stars feels very yesterday" at a press event in Los Gatos, California.
If you noticed this earlier in the year, you're not alone. Yellin said that the system was tested in the first half of 2016. But don't worry if you prefer the star rating; you'll still be able to see past ratings, but you can't add more star content. "So many people use Netflix, of course there's always going to be some divisiveness, but for the vast amount of users, this is going to makeht eir experience better," Yellin said.
Thumbs up to that.
