When it comes to online dating, lots of people list reading as a preferred hobby. But it transpires that exactly what you read has a big impact on how attractive you are to the opposite sex.

A new study by eHarmony proves that we are generally more appealing to potential suitors if we show an interest in books. Men that assert they like reading are 19 percent more likely to receive communication on the dating site, while women are only three percent more likely.

But what's really interesting is which books generate the most interest. Men's favourite book for women to have read was The Hunger Games, with women who have enjoyed the action novel 44 percent more likely to be messaged than those who haven't. This was followed by Game of Thrones (30 percent more messages), To Kill A Mockingbird (21 percent) and Pride & Prejudice (18 percent).

Women rate men who have read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - in fact, they're 36 percent more likely to communicate with a man whose read the psychological thriller. Next was George Orwell's 1984 (21 percent) and books about World War II (16 percent).

Bizaarly, mentioning Richard Branson's autobiographies,, Screw it, Let's Do It and Like a Virgin: Secrets they don't teach you at business school, will raise your online dating appeal. Men who mentioned Branson's books receive 74 percent more communication than those who don't, while women see a more modest increase of 19 percent.

However, there are some books that lower your chances - namely 50 Shades of Grey and Twilight. Men who professed their love of Harry Potter also didn't receive as much communication.

Obviously, read what you want but the findings are indeed interesting.
