The joke goes that we lie about having read the big books we know we're supposed to - War And Peace, Ulysses, etc.

Well, according to research, that's not exactly right. In fact, there are specific books we're most likely to have lied about reading and they're the ones with film adaptations.

The research, commissioned by The Reading Agency to mark World Book Night 2017, put the James Bond books by Ian Fleming at the top of the list of titles Brits have lied about reading when they've in fact only seen the film version.

Next follows the Lord of the Rings series by JRR Tolkein and The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis.

As well as identifying these fibs, the survey of 2,000 UK adults found we're a nation of wannabe bookworms, with two thirds (67%) of adults saying they would like to read more, and nearly half (48%) admitting they are too busy to read.

Well, that explains why many people seemingly opt for a film instead of a book. It's a sad statistic as there is nothing better than getting lost in the pages of a good book.
