Hellboy is making a big screen comeback, but without Guillermo del Toro.

The news was broken by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola that there would be an R-rated reboot – and not only will there be no del Toro, but Ron Perlman also won't be back as the cigar-favouring demon.

What we do have though is a Stranger Things star in the form of David Harbour as Hellboy.

"There IS going to be another HELLBOY MOVIE. It's going to be an R rated reboot directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones) and staring(sic) David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy," Mignola wrote on Facebook.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Hellboy reboot has a working title of Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen and has been written by Mignola, Andrew Cosby and Christopher Golden.

Back in February, del Toro expressed his regret that there wouldn't ever be a Hellboy 3, at least not from him.

"Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it," he tweeted, just weeks after he was excited about the possibility of a new movie.

And while he's yet to directly comment on the new development, del Toro has had some Twitter love with his Hellboy.

"Gettin alotta twitter love 2nite. Feelin it. Diggin it. Much obliged, you, the faithful…," Perlman posted, with del Toro replying to it: "I LOVE you too Perl."
