If you're one of the many Instagram users who ignores the mobile website in favour of a memory-clogging app, it might be time to revisit it.
For the first time, the social network's site can now be used for more than just browsing photos and checking up on notifications thanks to an upgrade which has added the app's main features to Instagram.com (mobile).
The new and improved mobile site, which was highlighted on Twitter by social media director Matt Navarra, means users no longer have to rely on the data-heavy app to share their pictures. Instead, users can post their photos using the mobile platform and save their phone storage at the same time.
Browsing through feeds and profiles and finding posts on a lighter version of the Explore tab is also now possible outside the app. Although you still can't apply filters, post videos, handle direct messages or view Stories, the useful upgrade means the much-loved service is a lot more accessible.
The brand confirmed the update, which went live in March, to Cosmopolitan, saying: "Instagram.com (accessed from mobile) is a web experience optimized for mobile phones. It's designed to help people have a fuller experience on Instagram no matter what device or network they are on." And as Engadget points out, it will be a welcome change for people in developing regions who no longer have to rely on a slow internet connection to download the pretty huge app. When it comes to growing their many millions of users, Instagram just made a pretty big step in the right direction.
