As Virtual Reality has broken into the mainstream, it has promised to do a lot of things: to revolutionize the gaming industry, transform porn, to change how doctors train, to let us explore the furthest reaches of the world from the comfort of our homes. Ridley Scott has used the technology to, at last, allow us to experience firsthand what it's like to burst out of a living host's body. As Prometheus—and soon Alien: Covenant—will smugly tell you, it's humanity's hubris that will ultimately be our downfall. Just because we have the technology to achieve something doesn't mean we should.

So, the question is: just because technology can give us the perspective of a baby xenomorph growing inside a doomed human's body, ready to claw its way through a bloody, gaping hole in the person's chest, land on the floor in a pool of bodily fluids, and then sprint full speed at a woman's face—should we take the chance to experience it ourselves?

It's without a doubt the the most disgusting VR experience used to promote a summer blockbuster.

But the good news is, if you don't find this all horribly unpleasant, you should have a really good time with the movie, as long as you're willing to let it also mansplain the creation paradox in between bouts of alien slaughter.
