Michael Fassbender wants to lighten up a bit on screen.

He rose to fame for hard-hitting roles in the likes of Shame and Hunger, going on to become Magneto in the X-Men franchise, who's not exactly known for his playful side.

His next big-screen outing sees him in the dual role of androids David and Walter in Alien: Covenant, and it seems it allowed him to explore his funnier side, something he wants to do much more of.

"I try and sort of bring it in wherever I can. Like David as well, there are some fun moments there. It's something that I have to do more of," he told The Irish Sun.

Even when he teams up with an established comic actor, Fassbender ends up in a serious movie, like when he appeared in Steve Jobs alongside Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak.

"We'd met before, I was a fan of his work. I think I threw a blueberry at him actually, it was at one of these dinners and he was at the table across the way and so that was our introduction," he recalled.

"So, when we were on Steve Jobs, he said, 'I thought we'd work together at some point but I thought it would be in one of my movies'. So yeah, maybe at some point."
