If there was a breakout star from the 42nd season finale of Saturday Night Live, it was, without a doubt, Backpack Kid.
Twitter was abuzz on Saturday night with praise and confusion surrounding a teenage dancer featured during Katy Perry's performance of her latest hit, "Swish Swish," who stole the show with his acrobatic swinging arms, killer dance moves, and cold as ice stare.
This was not, however, the first brush with fame and virality for Backpack Kid, whose real name is Russell Horning. That happened in late 2016, when Rhianna posted an Instagram featuring 14-year-old Horning to celebrate her nomination for eight Grammys.
Known as i_got_barzz to his 495,000 (and counting) Instagram followers, Horning has been a viral sensation for a number of months.
"I have no idea. It just started taking off so I kept it going," Horning told BET's Jazmine A. Ortiz in December, adding, "I think people love the videos so much because they're original. Yeah, there are other dance videos, but mine are funny. There's nothing else like it."
And he's right. Even Katy Perry can't imitate moves like his.
