France's newly elected President Emmanuel Macron walked up the red carpet towards a group of Nato leaders at the weekend and visibly swerved to avoid Donald Trump at the last second.

In a spectacularly not-so-subtle power play, Macron seemed to be headed straight for the US president, walking directly in front of him, but then ducked to the right and shared a warm embrace with Angela Merkel instead, leaving Trump to lower his hands awkwardly.

What followed was an excruciating five seconds where Macron greeted two other leaders before finally turning to the president, who then issue his standard bullshit 'jerk them in' handshake.

The incident come a day after Macron and Trump shared another power handshake at the pair's first face-to-face meeting in Brussels.

"Each president gripped the other's hand with considerable intensity, their knuckles turning white and their jaws clenching and faces tightening," according to a report by a White House correspondent.

The snub could also be read as a show of support for Merkel, after Trump previously refused to shake her hand when they first met.

The best bit? Macron tweeted the video of himself, from his own account, to his 1.1 million followers.
