Jeremy Corbyn has been heckling Theresa May on Twitter for refusing to take part in tonight's general election debate.

The Labour leader had initially said that he wouldn't take part unless May would, but now that he's changed his mind, he's giving the PM some stick on social media.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd will be representing the Tories instead.

" come & debate me. Any time. Any place. Britain deserves to see the only two people who could be the next Prime Minister debate," Corbyn tweeted.

He then suggested that her absence "would be another sign of her weakness" in the follow-up post: "The Tories have treated the public with contempt. Refusing to join me at tonight would be another sign of 's weakness."

He also criticised the Tories for what he called "a stage-managed arms-length campaign".

Lib Dem leader Tim Farron, UKIP's Paul Nuttall, SNP deputy leader Angus Robertson, Green co-leader Caroline Lucas and Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood are all due to participate in the BBC debate this evening.

May stands by her decision not to take part by saying she's spending her time meeting voters, rather than "swapping sound bites with six other politicians" (via BBC).

She's now retaliated by claiming she's far too busy focusing on the issue of Brexit, adding: "I've been taking Jeremy Corbyn on directly week in, week out at prime minister's questions.

"I feel sorry for ITV - why didn't he do their debate?"

Touché.

Tonight's debate will take place in Cambridge and will be aired on BBC One at 19:30-21:00. It will also be livestreamed on Twitter.
