After a long night fixed to the TV, the results are finally in for Theresa May's Snap Election and although the Conservative party remain the largest party, their losses and Labour's gains have led to a hung parliament – and now there are calls for the prime minister to resign.

The PM's troubles began when an exit poll late last night suggested that the Tories could lose their majority. This was confirmed live on TV this morning, with the latest numbers showing the Conservatives losing 12 seats and Labour gaining 29, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn outperforming expectations.

The result will now lead to a period of uncertainty while the country's next leader is decided. There are reports that May has been called to resign, while both the Tories or Labour could try to form a coalition in order to have a majority and run the country. The hung parliament could also throw Brexit negotiations — due to start on 19 June — into disarray.
